Honeybee-based biohybrid system for landmine detection

چکیده

Legacy landmines in post-conflict areas are a non-discriminatory lethal hazard and can still be triggered decades after the conflict has ended. Efforts to detect these explosive devices expensive, time-consuming, dangerous humans animals involved. While methods such as metal detectors sniffer dogs have successfully been used humanitarian demining, more tools required for both site surveying accurate mine detection. Honeybees emerged recent years efficient bioaccumulation biomonitoring animals. The system reported here uses two complementary landmine detection methods: passive sampling active search. Passive aims confirm presence of materials mine-suspected area by analysis material brought back colony on honeybee bodies returning from foraging trips. Analysis is performed light-emitting chemical sensors detecting explosives thermally desorbed preconcentrator strip. search intended able pinpoint place where individual most likely present. Used together, anticipated useful an end-to-end process surveying, suspected hazardous reduction, post-clearing internal external quality control demining.

Integrated Mobile Robot System for Landmine Detection

In this paper, we discuss the integration process of a mobile robot and multi-channel metal detector system intended for humanitarian demining applications within the EU FP7 TIRAMISU project. The paper describes how a standard tele-operated Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robot was upgraded with electronics, sensors, computing power, motor control units and power sources, such that it becomes...

Experimental model for a seismic landmine detection system

A laboratory-scale experimental model has been developed and tested for a system that uses artificially generated high-frequency seismic waves in conjunction with a radar-based noncontact displacement sensor to detect buried landmines. The principle of operation of the system is to measure the transient displacement field very close to a mine location. In this way, the absorption and the geomet...

GPR Environmental-Based Landmine Automatic Detection

According to the United Nations, as of the year 2000 there were 70 million landmines planted in a third of the world’s nations affecting global causality rate of up to 20,000/year, (Anderson, 2002). That is why landmine detection has attracted much attention by many research teams around the world during the last two decades; among them is our research team in Nagoya University. Anti-personnel ...

Landmine Detection Using Radar

Landmines are affecting the lives and livelihood of millions of people around the world. The video impulse ground penetrating radar system for detection for small and shallow buried objects has been developed. The hardware combines commercially available components with components specially developed or modified for being used in the system. The GPR system has been desired to measure accurately...

Heat Transfer for NDE: Landmine Detection

Although land mine problems existed in many regions, Bosnia (1995) and Afghanistan (2001) gave the land mine issue a particular sense of urgency. Intended for warfare, these mines remain buried after the end of the conflict. These mines are triggered by civilians causing around 15,000-20,000 victims per year in 90 countries, ICBL (2006). The U.S. State Department estimates that there are around...
